Hair Band is back!
 |
Released
in
November
of
1981, Too
Fast
for
Love,
made Motley
Crue
history
in the
Heavy
Metal,
Hairband
phenomenon
and
continue
to do
so
even
in the
current
times.
Tommy
Lee
teamed
up
with
Nikki
Sixx,
Mick
Mars,
and
Vince
Neil
who in
the
beginning
wore
makeup
to
proclaim
their
name,
dressed
in the
stylish
leather
and
chains
to
close
the
deal.
One
of the
most
popular
and
well
known
bands
for
their
outlandish
behavior
on and
off of
the
stage,
Motley
Crue
has
successfully
continued
to
release
CD’s
over
the
years
and
complete
tours
around
the
world.
Even
with
members
going
solo,
they
continue
to
rock
out
their
music.
Personal
favorites
in my
CD
collection
are Shout
at the
Devil
and Theatre
of
Pain,
both
released
in the
heart
of
their
prime
in the
1980’s.
I’ve
seen
this
band
perform
many
times
over
the
years
including
the New
Tattoo
tour
in
2000.
Still,
these
guys
know
how to
rock!
And I
am one
who is
grateful
that
despite
the
changes
over
the
years,
I can
still
listen
to Motley
Crue
on the
radio!
Rock
on,
Guys!!

Life
in Athens,
GA – A
college town
of new
beginnings
and dreams

By
Lyn
Andradzki
Things
happen for a
reason, I
strongly
believe. My
life simply
didn’t
exist
anymore in a
town that I
called home
for more
than thirty
years.
My
family had
lives of
their own
and I no
longer had a
marriage or
family to
call my own.
I craved
something
new and I
craved the
love that I
lost.
I
met someone
who is very
special to
me and I
moved across
the state a
few month
later to a
new life.
How
many people
have said
“I wish
that I could
be in my
20’s again
and know
what I know
now?”
Here,
I have that
opportunity
to explore
this
thought. Starting over again, in a college town, just as starting a
new book or
reading to
the next
chapter.
There
are many
places that
I enjoy in
Athens. I
have yet to
explore all
the places
to dine but
I’m
finding that
I try many
new things
in this
chapter.
The
Winery, The
GA Bar,
DePalmas,
Doc Chey’s,
all walking
distance
from UGA
campus.
On
this past
Saturday
night, I
found myself
in The
Winery alone
while
waiting on
my friends
to arrive
and I note
that the
young men
and women
around me
are calling
me Ma’am.
Well,
I can at
least feel
younger than
I am,
can’t I?
There are so
many things
in life that
I have yet
to explore,
doesn’t
that make me
young? Okay,
so you
can’t go
back to your
20’s
exactly…but
you can
explore new
opportunities
and new
experiences
just as you
did when you
were in your
20’s when
you felt as
if the world
was yours to
explore.
I
take with me
all my
memories of
the 80’s
– music,
clothing,
concerts,
dating, etc
– and
remember
them with
fondness as
I explore my
life today.
After
all, it’s
the memories
and who I
was then,
that I am
able to see
myself in
the mirror
everyday and
smile to
myself. This
is who I am,
this is who
I want to
be. And all
these
experiences
are part of
me, good and
bad.
Go
with me as I
explore the
memories and
make new
ones. All
the memories
of the
80’s and
today’s
new music on
the rise –
Hometown
Grooves
included!
Explore
Athens, GA
as I see it;
walk with me
as Rock and
Roll dreams
come true.

Since Headbangers Ball hasnt aired on Friday and Saturday nights, I havent watched MTV until someone got smart with the idea of I Love The 80s for VH1. After the More of I love the 80s, VH1 brought on the 100 Metal Moments segment. You know what? I never quit listening or thinking of the 80s. Amazing how some people did.
Remembering the 80s brings back a flood of memories. Most of them good, but as any teenager no matter what the year, there were some bad memories too. The music kept me going and happy during all those times. Still does. Ask anyone who knows me. Whats in my car? Headbangers Ball, Baby!
My first concert that I was taken to outside of Air Supply was W.A.S.P. who opened for Quiet Riot. I will not forget that concert. Ever. Here I am a Catholic girl who really has been shelter most of her life fascinated with these guys with long hair, tattoos and leather. What really threw me for a loop was the fact that Blackie Lawless drank blood from a skull and then poured it all over his body. Needless to say, this was my first taste of rock hard metal. That taste left me craving more for the next concert during those high school and college years.
I actually have a scrapbook that I keep all of my concert ticket stubs in. They are neatly displayed and kept from the weathering elements. I love to reminisce while looking at the stubs. Who I went with, what was happening in my life during that time, what favorite song the band did live that night, and what stage show shenanigans they did, are all memories that I keep in this notebook.
I remember decorating my walls with posters from Hit Parade and Metal Edge. Not a white paint speckle showed either! My mother was less than thrilled in my taste at that time but learned to live with it since I didnt bring home anyone that remotely resembled my hair mania. For the most part, I was allowed to stay out later on concert nights than normal date nights. Only on a few occasions was a requested to be home at a decent time after a concert. With Atlanta having a noise ordinance that requires music and gatherings of all kinds to end by 11pm, I was still at home at a decent time. Ah, yes! The freedom that the music gave to me! Hmmm
now that I think about it, it is why I still love it and listen to it everyday.
So many things to remember about the 80s
.not only the music, but the things we had. Care Bears, My Pretty Pony, and Cabbage Patch Kids just to name a few. The fashion (as we look back now) was really nothing to brag about! Thanks to many of Madonnas videos, we were a slave to the layered shredded looks, mini skirts, lace socks with high heels, leather and lace, rubber bracelets, and layered puffy hair dos. Trends we had then and are trying to make their way back into the fashion world for our own kids, nieces, and nephews today. Gosh! I hope they dont bring back the parachute pants! I think we are safe considering that was a Michael Jackson fad! Even then, we should have known that Michael Jackson wasnt right in the head. Like, gag me with a spoon!!
I hope you enjoy your stroll through memory as much as I do. Stay tuned for all the music and memories as we take the journey down the road to the decade of the 80s.
